Standard News publishes 2,000 Essential Words for American Law Schools for readers who are challenging American law schools. In the first year of law school, even native English-speaking American students struggle with unfamiliar words. For law school aspirants from Korea, of course, the English language is often more than adequate to take the LSAT (Law School Admission Test).

However, unfamiliar legal terms pose a high barrier for first-year law students who have to deal with rigorous reading. For example, the word “meet,” which we all recognize, does not mean “to meet. In this context, “meet” means “to fulfill” and “the requirement is met by” means “the requirement is met by”. It usually appears about the 10th time in a dictionary.

The author has organized these 2,000 words, which may seem unfamiliar, into the Essential American Law School Words. The author has compiled these words from his own law school experience and published them in a dictionary format, saying, “You don’t have to know all the words here, but to include all the words you don’t know would be to create another dictionary. The 2,000 words in this book will provide a foundation of legal English words for native Korean challengers. For students who are very proficient in English, learning these words will help them to develop a legal mindset.”

The Standard News book will be published through PubPle and will be available from Kyobo Books. Standard News will publish My daughter’s Korean: Internet neologisms that even Korean dads can’t understand; Milestone Series, which summarizes the latest business information in Korea; and Korean Cosmetic Companies 300, which will be published in English on Amazon in the United States.
